Princess Bride Actors 20 Years Later

It’s been 20 years since the cult classic “The Princess Bride” debuted. Here’s what the stars look like now:

Princess Bride Carey Elway 20 Years Later Pic The charming Westley has shed his hose and princess pursuit for some more modern garb in the 20 years since he tumbled down the hill screaming

Above: Westley (Carey Elwes): The charming Westley has shed his hose and princess pursuit for some more modern garb in the 20 years since he tumbled down the hill screaming “As you wish” to his precious Buttercup. Although he continued his comic flair in period satires in “Robinhood Man in Tights,” he’s since taken on more serious roles in “Georgia Rule” and the spine-tingling “Saw.” (Wire Image/ Getty Images )

Princess Bride Mandy Patankin 20 Years Later Pic Inigo Montoya (Mandy Patinkin): “Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father, prepare to die.” Who can forget that line? Not too many! The sword-wielding Spaniard fought his way into our hearts with his revenged crazed rants, but actor Mandy Patinkin sealed a spot with his renowned role in hit series “Dead Like Me.” (Wire Image/ Getty Images )

Princess Robin Wright Penn 20 Years Later Pic Buttercup (Robin Wright Penn): “The Princess Bride” and beautiful Buttercup charmed Westley and audiences alike, but actress Robin Wright Penn didn’t stop there. Since her frolics in Florin, this talented star has stolen the scene with her portrayal of characters in “Forrest Gump,” “Message in a Bottle” and “White Oleander.” Penn seems poised for a fairy-tale Hollywood ending, living in California with husband Sean Penn and their two children. The actress’ latest project, “Beowulf,” will hit theaters in November. (Wire Image/ AP Photo )

Princess Bride Chris Sarandon 20 Years Later Pic Prince Humperdink (Chris Sarandon): Although we last left Prince Humperdink quaking in the Honeymoon suite of his own castle, the actor continued his infamous ways in the chilling “Child’s Play,” at left, and Tim Burton’s “A Nightmare Before Christmas.” Sarandon has more recently appeared on the acclaimed drama “Law and Order.” (Wire Image/ Getty Images)

Princess Bride Fred Savage 20 Years Later Pic Grandson (Fred Savage): Child actor Fred Savage may have worked “Wonders” with his famed television series but the young star earned lasting recognition though his endearing portrayal of the grandson in “The Princess Bride.” Thanks to Savage’s eager ears and timely sniffle, we too could hear the gripping tale! The grandson is all grown up now, and Savage and his wife and childhood friend, Jennifer Lynn, welcomed a baby boy in 2006. (Getty Images )

Princess Bride Wallace Shawn 20 Years Later Pic Vizzini (Wallace Shawn): We all know that Vizzini’s lack of logic led to his untimely poisoning, but Wallace Shawn sure doesn’t lack acting wits. Leaving the wicked ways of Vizzini behind, this actor has continued his adept comedic timing in such notable films as “Clueless,” “Toy Story” and “The Incredibles.” (AP Photo/ Getty Images )

Princess Bride Peter Falk 20 Years Later Pic Narrator (Peter Falk): Though Peter Falk’s paternal character captivated grandsons and viewers alike with his tall-tale telling, the bulk of this actor’s career placed Falk in a far different environment from a childhood bedroom. For Detective Columbo on the popular series of the same name, it was frantic police chases instead of fairy-tale fantasies. (SIPA/ Getty Images)

Princess Bride Billy Crystal 20 Years Later Pic Miracle Max (Billy Crystal): While Miracle Max revived the “almost dead,” actor Billy Crystal performed his own acting miracles across Hollywood. With hilarious roles in “City Slickers” and “Analzye This” — just to name a few — the frequently funny man never failed to bring out a laugh. Crystal will also be the recipient of 2007’s Mark Twain Prize for American Humor. (Getty Images/ AP Photo )

Princess Bride Christopher Guest 20 Years Later PicTyrone Rugen (Christopher Guest): Tyrone Rugen may have left his victims “mostly dead,” but the six-fingered man has conquered Hollywood in the film’s wake. Though one of the more villainous characters in “Princess Bride,” Guest has created his own mockumentary niche with his flicks, “Best in Show,” “Spinal Tap” and most recently, “For Your Consideration.” (Wire Image )

Princess Bride Carol Kane 20 Years Later Pic Valerie (Carol Kane): Carol Kane brought out the snarky witchy-ness of Miracle Max’s wife and partner in miracles in the role of Valerie. However, Kane’s part as Simka Dahblitz-Gravas — Andy Kaufman’s character’s wife on “Taxi” — showed how charming quirkiness can be. The actress can now be found still living her fairy tale as Madame Marrible in the Broadway hit “Wicked.” (Getty Images/ Wire Image )

Prince Bride Andre the Giant Photo Fezzik (Andre the Giant): Fezzik and his ridiculous rhymes may have made Andre the Giant a household name, but this actor also put his massive frame to use as a professional wrestler in France before his role in “The Princess Bride.” Sadly, Andre died at the young age of 46 in 1993. Rest in peace, Andre.

I wrote “10 Life Lessens I Learned from The Princess Bride” because this is one of my favorite films filled with wonderful lessons to live by. Great follow up on the actors.

Re: “Princess Bride”
You wrote too little about Mandy Patinkin’s subsequent career! Since “Princess Bride,” he’s starred in “Chicago Hope,”Criminal Minds,” Broadway, and has held several concerts with that terrific tenor voice of his!

As for Peter Falk’s “Columbo”……….Sorry! It wasn’t KNOWN for it’s “frantic police chases,” at ALL! Just the opposite! It was known for Columbo’s almost excruciatingly slow series of questions and exits, designed to frustrate and fool the over-confident villians!

Just a correction. The article suggests that Christopher Guest was the director of ‘Spinal Tap’. He was in it, and this movie seems to have been the inspiration for his subsequent directorial and movie styles, but it was Rob Reiner who directed ‘ Spinal Tap’ (Marty DiBergi). This is a common mistake, so common it might end up being an incorrect ‘fact’ someday…

Just seems oddly short-sighted when speaking of Mandy Patinkin, who just screwed over the cast and producers of “Criminal Minds” by refusing to show up for the first day of work for the new season without telling anyone. And, also, if “Dead Like Me” was a hit. . .then why was it canceled after 2 seasons?

what a terribly written article. I was curious to see what had happened to these people but it seemed like a 9th grader wrote this as a midterm project.

“We all know that Vizzinis lack of logic led to his untimely poisoning, but Wallace Shawn sure doesnt lack acting wits.”

Is this all it takes to write for a Hollywood themed website? Shame on you for putting in the absolute least effort possible. You’re not doing this movie any kind of justice.

Interesting to see where they’ve ended up. I’ve seen Carol Kane twice in Wicked and she’s absolutely fantastic. She can’t sing all that well, but the acting is superb. Oh, and as a resident Wicked superfanatic, I am compelled to point out your error–she plays Madame Morrible, not Madame “Marrible.”
