Star Jones Fired From ‘The View’
Access Exclusive: Star Leaves ‘The View’ | News | Access Hollywood
Star Jones Reynolds will announce her departure from “The View” this week, Access Hollywood learned. A source close to “The View” told Access Monday that Star Jones Reynolds will leave “The View” in July and will announce the departure on the show this week. As a result, the much discussed face-off between Star and incoming co-host, Rosie O’Donnell, will never occur. O’Donnell is not joining the gals until September.
By July, Star will have been at “The View” for close to nine years, having been a part of the show since its inception in August 1997.
Actually, since it’s late June, I’d say she’s already been there close to nine years.
ASL and her readers care much more about this than do I. Then again, that wouldn’t be hard. I guess if I ever want to see an episode of “The View” with Star on it, I’ll have to hurry up. It’s one of those things I’ve avoided thinking “it’ll always be there.” But life is so fleeting.
William F. Buckley, Jr. once noted that he had never seen an episode of that program featuring the black woman who was alternately thin and fat. He was referring, I believe, to Oprah Winfrey. But, I’m sure he’s never seen “The View,” either, and the observation would be equally germane.
UPDATE: It appears Star was fired. Post title adjusted accordingly.
Star Jones Reynolds announced Tuesday morning on The View that she’ll be leaving the show in July after nine years as a cohost. “Something’s been on my heart for a little bit, and after much prayer and counsel I feel like this is the right time to tell you that the show is moving in another direction for its tenth season and I will not be returning as cohost next year,” she said on the air. “That’s shocking to me,” interrupted Joy Behar, prompting Jones Reynolds to link hands with her cohosts. As for where she’ll go next Jones Reynolds said, “I’m not sure what the future holds, but I’m absolutely sure who holds the future.” The show’s creator, Barbara Walters, wrapped up the discussion by saying, “It is a new chapter for Star. It will be a new chapter for The View in the fall.”
So why is Jones Reynolds leaving? Contrary to speculation that she’s unhappy about the upcoming addition of Rosie O’Donnell – one of her most vocal critics – to the show this fall, she reveals exclusively in this week’s PEOPLE magazine that the departure was not her choice. “What you don’t know is that my contract was not renewed for the tenth season,” she tells PEOPLE. “I feel like I was fired.” She adds that she was told her contract wouldn’t be renewed just days before news leaked that O’Donnell would be joining The View.
UPDATE: Trikc observes, “That’s not like being fired… that’s just being fired.” At least technically, though, Star can tell future employers that she’s never been fired, her contract just ran out. But, yeah, she was fired.

I certainly hate to see Star leave the show -I personaly liked her. I think it should be Joy …. Star tried to be fair, moral, and act with dignity and in their arguments, which some times get heated – Star knew when to shut-up, unlike Joy. With Rosie coming to the show they needed Star more then ever – I think the show will now flop. I feel sorry for Elizabeth
Thank God the bitch was fired! I couldn’t stand her. Her fake, shallow, and over-the-top personality was a huge turn-off and I don’t blame ABC or Barbara for firing her ass. Good Riddance, Star! Go to hell!
I also will not watch the view due to Star and Meredith leaving, there will be no more intelligence and diversity on the show. I have no interest in seeing ‘Fred Flintstone’ replace Meredith. Walters and ABC should be ashamed of themselves for what they did to Star. The show has lost all it’s love and light. Now it will be dark and bitter. I think the show will tank very soon. No one wants to hear the rantings of a bitter lesbian…:(….
Is this – out with the Christian – in with the lesbian?
Thank the goddess she is gone, i stopped watching because i didnt like her, she just got worse over the years!
Rosie will bring more fun to the show and i will tune in again!!!
I think it is quite interesting that the view chose to replace Star Jones with Rosie Odonald. I mean I do not want to say that Star was the spokesperson for black America, but she did add color on the View. Also, Rosie O´donald is aa lesbian. Its great to add someone to speak for the LGTBQQ community- but the view will be missing out on something by not having someone who shares the views of many black women in the US.
MY GAWD!
The woman was annoying, ignorant and dissmissive of other’s opinions. Her impact on the show overall was a negative.
I must laugh at her never owning up to having her stomach stapled or her obviously homosexual husband.
Good riddance. I must laugh, since she was always a joke.
When I first started watching the show, I thought Star Jones was a breath of fresh air. She seemed real, fair, and willing to tell the truth. As of late I can say all that has changed. She seems to have transformed overnight into a shallow person who would do or say anything to help herself and her career. What really turned me off was her wedding, and the fact that she took handouts and freebee’s to get hitched. She should be ashamed at what she’s become. Star it’s never too late, repent and remember life before you were a “Star”
I have watched the View every day since Rosie came on. She is truly a breath of fresh air The View needed. I truly believe the show was soon to be gone had she not come. As for Star, she came, she did her thing, bettered herself, riched up herself, and left. Would like to buy her for what’s she worth and sell her for what she thinks she is worth. I am a hetrosexual woman of 74 years and I don’t care about anybody’s sexual orientation. Been married to the same sweet man for 50 years. Don’t watch TV for moral guidance, just entertainment. Rosie, Barbara, Joy and Elizabeth are a perfect team!!

I believed that when the view welcomed rosie they were saying ‘your out to Star’, so I am not surprised. The powers that be tried to control the terms of Star leaving so they wouldn’t look bad, but by her announcing her eventual exit earlier than ABC wanted her to, she would eventually exit on her own terms. Sadly, after Star’s announcement ABC chose to be classless and make a private firing a public firing by not allowing Star to return to work. I was once a faithful viewer, but because of the Star rosie trade, I will now find out what else is on in the views time slot. I wish Star Jones the best.
